1. Who Is Responsible for Your Data
The data controller for the Services is ZipZap Talk. For privacy-related questions or requests, contact us at contact@zipzaptalk.com or through our contact page.
2. Scope of This Policy
This policy applies to information we collect through our website, waitlist form, email communications, blog pages, customer support channels, and the ZipZap Talk mobile and web applications after launch. It does not apply to third-party websites, apps, or social media platforms that we link to or that link to us. Those services have their own privacy policies.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Information you provide directly
- Waitlist email address when you sign up for early access on our homepage
- Contact information when you email us or submit inquiries (name, email, message content)
- Account information after app launch (such as display name, profile photo, bio, language preferences, and login credentials)
- User-generated content including messages, voice room participation, moments, comments, and other content you choose to share in the app
- Support and feedback you send when reporting issues or suggesting features
3.2 Information collected automatically
- Device and technical data such as browser type, operating system, device identifiers, IP address, language settings, and approximate location derived from IP
- Usage data such as pages visited, links clicked, session duration, referral source, and interactions with site features
- App diagnostics such as crash logs, performance data, and feature usage after launch
- Cookies and similar technologies as described in Section 8
3.3 Information from third parties
We may receive limited information from analytics providers, hosting partners, authentication services (if you sign in with a third-party account after launch), app stores, or social platforms if you interact with our official profiles or ads. We treat this information in accordance with this policy.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use personal information for the following purposes:
- Operating and maintaining the website, waitlist, and application
- Sending waitlist confirmations, launch updates, and product announcements you have requested or consented to receive
- Creating and managing user accounts after launch
- Enabling voice rooms, chat, translation, matching, and other core product features
- Personalizing your experience, such as language matching and content recommendations
- Monitoring performance, fixing bugs, and improving security
- Conducting analytics to understand how the Services are used
- Responding to support requests and communicating with you
- Enforcing our Terms and Conditions, preventing abuse, and protecting users
- Complying with legal obligations and responding to lawful requests
We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their independent marketing purposes.
5. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA/UK Users)
If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, we process personal data on one or more of the following legal bases:
- Consent — for example, when you join the waitlist or opt in to marketing emails
- Contract — when processing is necessary to provide the Services you request
- Legitimate interests — such as improving the product, securing our systems, and preventing fraud, balanced against your rights
- Legal obligation — when we must retain or disclose information under applicable law
You may withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
6. Waitlist and Email Communications
When you submit your email to join the ZipZap Talk waitlist, we store it securely to notify you about launch progress, beta access, and related product news. Waitlist submissions are processed through our website and may be recorded in a secure spreadsheet or database managed via Google Workspace tools operated under our control.
We collect only the information you submit (typically your email address and a timestamp). We do not require a password or payment details for the waitlist.
You can unsubscribe from promotional emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any marketing message or by emailing contact@zipzaptalk.com. We may still send essential service or legal notices where permitted.
7. Voice, Chat, Translation, and AI Processing
ZipZap Talk is built around real-time communication. Depending on the features you use, we may process:
- Voice audio in voice rooms, calls, or voice messages for live transmission and, where enabled, AI translation or transcription
- Text messages in chats, including content processed by translation or moderation systems
- Metadata such as room IDs, participant lists, message timestamps, and report flags
Where we offer end-to-end encrypted messaging, message content is encrypted so that only intended participants can read it on supported clients. We may still process limited metadata needed to deliver messages, prevent abuse, and comply with law. Specific encryption scope will be documented in the app at launch.
AI translation and voice features may send audio or text to trusted service providers for processing. We aim to minimize data sent, use secure transmission, and contractually require providers to protect data and use it only to deliver the requested service. AI outputs may be logged temporarily for quality and safety review where necessary.
Do not share highly sensitive personal data (such as health records, financial account numbers, or government ID numbers) in voice rooms or chats. Public and semi-public features are not designed for confidential communications.
8. Cookies and Similar Technologies
Our website may use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to remember preferences, measure traffic, and improve performance. These may include:
- Essential cookies required for basic site functionality
- Analytics cookies that help us understand visitor behavior in aggregate
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking certain cookies may affect site functionality. Where required by law, we will request consent before placing non-essential cookies.
9. When We Share Information
We may share personal information in these circumstances:
- Service providers who help us host the website, store waitlist data, send emails, provide analytics, deliver push notifications, process AI translation, or operate infrastructure — under confidentiality and data protection obligations
- Other users when you voluntarily share profile information or content in public or semi-public areas of the app
- Legal and safety when we believe disclosure is necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, protect rights and safety, or investigate fraud or abuse
- Business transfers in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate safeguards
- With your consent for any other purpose you explicitly approve
10. International Data Transfers
ZipZap Talk may process and store information in countries other than where you live, including countries that may have different data protection laws. When we transfer personal data internationally, we implement appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms where required by applicable law.
11. Data Retention
We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required by law.
- Waitlist emails are kept until you unsubscribe, request deletion, or we no longer need them for launch communications
- Account data is retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for backup, dispute resolution, and legal compliance
- Support messages are retained as needed to resolve your request and improve our service
- Logs and analytics may be retained in aggregated or de-identified form for longer periods
We may retain certain information where necessary to enforce policies, prevent harm, or comply with legal obligations even after a deletion request.
12. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
- Delete your personal information, subject to legal exceptions
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Receive a portable copy of information you provided
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
- Opt out of marketing communications
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
To exercise these rights, email contact@zipzaptalk.com with enough detail for us to verify your identity and locate your data. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know categories of data collected and to opt out of certain sharing. We do not sell personal information as defined by those laws.
13. Children's Privacy
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact contact@zipzaptalk.com and we will take steps to delete it.
Users between 13 and 18 should use the Services with parental or guardian consent and supervision, especially in live voice interactions with other users.
14. Security
We implement technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls, and secure infrastructure practices. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
You play an important role in protecting your account by using a strong password, enabling available security features after launch, and avoiding sharing sensitive information in public conversations.
If we become aware of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and relevant authorities as required by law.
15. Third-Party Links and Social Media
Our website links to third-party platforms including X (@zipzaptalk), Instagram, and TikTok. Interactions on those platforms are governed by their respective privacy policies. We may see public interactions with our accounts but do not control how those platforms collect or use your data.
16. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will post the updated policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date. For significant changes affecting registered users, we may provide additional notice by email or in-app message where appropriate.
We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the Services after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
